Today (Friday) marks the 40th anniversary of the death of Jim Croce in a plane crash near Natchitoches, Louisiana on September 20, 1973.
Jim Croce's rose to fame quickly during the early 70s pop "singer-songwriter" era. Along with artists like Carole King and James Taylor, Jim Croce wrote his own hits. Few artists with so few hits have made such an impact.
Jim's widow Ingrid Croce continues to keep his legacy alive. Her book Photographs and Memories chronicles her life with her late husband, including the opening of Croce's, a restaurant in San Diego, that Ingrid built in honor of Jim. We're remembering the late Jim Croce this week.
